1. Limitations of Paint for Valve Identification

While paint is a simple and convenient method for identifying valve materials, it is difficult to rely solely on it due to the variety of valve types and complex operating conditions. Different grades of similar materials may share the same paint color, making it challenging to determine their specific attributes like pressure capacity, operating temperature, and suitable media.




2. Primary Purpose of Valve Paint: Protection, Not Identification

The main function of paint on a valve is to protect it from corrosion, not just for identification. Coating protects the valve’s surface, especially in harsh operating environments, and should also meet aesthetic and hygiene standards for sanitary valves. Research into paint application technology and quality is essential to ensure effective corrosion protection.




3. Challenges with Paint Identification in Special Valve Applications

There are cases where paint cannot be used to identify valve materials, such as valves with processed surfaces or special anti-corrosion treatments. Furthermore, the use of paint for identification may not be suitable for certain special-purpose valves, and it can vary by market requirements for exported products.




4. Alternative Identification Methods and Future Improvements

In many countries, printing or casting markings directly on the valve body or nameplate is a common method for material identification. Adopting such methods and developing a unified, easy-to-understand valve material code or symbol could improve reliability and simplify identification, which some Chinese manufacturers are already exploring.
